Hey Baby!

The colours, the polka dots, the banner, the monkeys – I love everything about this cake. This is one of those my sister’s, cousin’s, best friend’s, daughter’s cat kind of stories so here goes… My clever Cacti buddy Kim, designed a super cute baby shower invitation for her friend Kat’s sister Ashley’s baby shower – phew! Kat then asked me if I would make the cake. So with invitation in hand I set about sketching some ideas down for Kat to choose from. After a couple of emails the main cake was decided on and I had the cupcake and finer details set in my head but wanted to keep them a surprise for the day.
I got to work hand coulouring the fondant for the polka dots, monkey and banner and tried my best to match them as close as possible to the colour of the invitations (where’s my pantone swatch?). I then hand cut the cute banners for the main topper and cupcakes and with no time for monkeying around, I also made the cute little monkey faces.
On the morning of the shower, I was surprisingly relaxed, with enough time to take photos and pack the little cupcakes up in their little boxes and off we went, me driving like a Nana and the boy carefully holding the cake.
Kat and her sister had so many lovely things to say about the cake and didn’t want anyone to eat it. They eventually caved, and by all accounts the cake was delicious. Thanks for asking me to make the cake girls and all the best for the safe arrival of your little one, Ashley x
