Suspended Waffle Cake

And in the mornin', I'm makin' waffles!

I had been wanting to make another suspended cake for ages after making my Pipe Me Pretty cake in a class with Sharon Wee last year. While working full time, attending crazy early morning bootcamp sessions and planning and packing for an overseas holiday seemed like the perfect time not only this cake, but also a pretty cake for one of my Cacti. Well until I actually realised I didn't have time in between the aforementioned activities to make two cakes the the waffle cake became multi purpose - and the lovely birthday girl didn't mind at all.

While a little rushed, I was really happy with how the cake turned out. A quick little sqaure cake detailed with modelling chocolate for the waffle grooves, a covering of fondant, a quick coat of colour with my trusty airbrush, a balloon stick filled with florist wire and a plastic cup later, this fun little creation was born.

I coated the faux caramel sauce with a mixture of vodka and corn syrup to give it a nice sticky sheen and topped the waffle with two pads of butter.

Last but not least, I made a little sugar cookie knife and fork, covered them in fondant and imprinted a little birthday message.
