Ayla, May The 4th Be With You!

What a difference a year makes! Last year, Ayla celebrated her 3rd birthday with a hand painted Snugglepot and Cuddlepie cake and a fun little foraging party. This year for her 4th birthday her request was a Darth Vader cake, no less!

Ayla’s mum sent me an email with the theme while I was holidaying in Thailand earlier in the year and the idea came to me pretty instantly. You see, Ayla’s middle name is May and putting a little spin on a classic Star Wars line, 'May the Force be with You', the idea for the cake and the topper were born.

I hand painted the Darth Vader to match the cartoon lego Darth Vader on the invitation and knew I wanted a metallic silver splatter to act as the galaxy that rolls through the opening credits to Star Wars.

Everything was coming together nice and smoothly, until I went to cover my 7” tall, 6” cake with black fondant - and it tore! Over and over again. The poor Boy came in and tried to help with a great suggestion of panelling the cake to add another bit of detail, but at the time I just didn’t want to hear it. Common sense prevailed and I cut and applied my panels to the cake (I secretly wish I had thought of the idea in the first place).

To achieve my galaxy (far, far away), I soaked a toothbrush (a clean one, I promise) with silver lustre and flicked the metallic goodness all over the cake.

Ayla loved her cake and looked adorable in her cape and Darth Vader mask running around playing light sabre battles with her little storm trooper buddies.

I loved this cake and look forward to hearing Miss Ayla’s cake request next year!

Special thanks goes to Glistening Occasions for the perfect topper and to Ali (Ayla’s mum) for the stunning outdoor photos.
