The Techniques of a Caker - Wafer Paper
Posted Jan 30th 2015 by Lena
Welcome back on board Baked a Cake for 2015, this is your captain speaking. Can you believe that we are almost in February already?!
Well as you can tell by the lateness of my January post, I can't.
With the dates on the calendar flying by I keep thinking that I have days and days left in January but alas, I don't.
This year to get myself motivated and to build on my skills I have decided on focusing a new caking skill each month and hope you will join me on my journey this year again.
For January I have decided to try my hand making wafer paper flowers after watching a tutorial by Stevie Auble from Hey There, Cupcake. I found the tutorial really easy to follow, but was well and truly distracted by Stevie's amazing rock! The class taught me how to make beautiful delicates ranunculus and rolled roses as well as stylised peonies and roses but today's post will focus on the first two flowers (I did make a large peony but the humidity sadly caused it to droop so I'll have to have another try - watch this space.
I love the delicateness of these beautiful flowers – how stiff, yet fragile rice paper can quickly turn into pretty little petals with movement with a quick coating of wafer paper. I made these as a trial run for a potential wedding client and was really happy with the result. I would love to know what you think x
