Holy caramel popcorn Batman!

Last Friday the Boy celebrated his 28th birthday. We have a tradition in our household to try and out-do each other with the birthday cakes that we make each other each year, and after the cake he made for my birthday, I knew I had to bring something pretty special to the table. Queue a delicious chocolate cake iced with salted caramel cream cheese icing and piled high with sticky salted caramel popcorn!
I had a few ideas up my sleeve for this year’s cake that were spinning round my head before I finally decided on this one and once I had the clear idea in my head I was ready to go – I had the shots that I wanted to take for the blog in my mind for weeks and the recipes collated, I was nice and organised… until I made the caramel sauce, seizing the caramel when adding the cream too quickly and not stirring continuously while I added it – but a quick dash to Coles soon had me back on track.
I finished the cake before we went to our favourite, Talulah for dinner, piling the popcorn nice and high and setting the scene for my shots, taking almost too long making sure the cake was picture perfect to get changed before we left for our reservation. After enjoying a delicious dinner we had just enough room in our tummies to roll home and fit in a little slice of cake – the best one to date so I am told!
How will I top it next year?
